Premier Visual Studies Program, in New York

If you're interested in culture and why things become popular in
today's world, Pratt's program in critical and visual studies may be
just the program for you. Pratt's outstanding reputation and beautiful
25-acre campus just minutes from Manhattan make Pratt the ideal choice
for students interested in creative fields. Pratt, one of the leading
colleges for art, design, writing, and architecture in the United
States, enables students to explore their interests by taking
electives in any of 22 different departments from fine arts to
interior design to fashion.

Bachelor of Arts in Critical and Visual Studies

The Critical and Visual Studies program's mission is to prepare
students to think critically and act creatively in the cultural world
through lively and demanding engagement with cultural objects and
institutions. Curricular and co-curricular activities provide students
with a critical and historically informed understanding of how culture
is made and lived; the ability to develop and integrate written, oral,
visual, spatial, and kinesthetic expression through student-initiated
projects; and opportunities to further integrate theory and practice
and make links between academic work and the working world through
internships in cultural institutions.

Ideal Location

Pratt's location in New York City, which offers a vast array of
professional, cultural, and recreational opportunities, is a distinct
advantage to students. Pratt Institute is located on a 25-acre,
tree-lined residential campus in Brooklyn's historic Clinton Hill
section, just 25 minutes by car or subway from Manhattan. Hundreds of
Pratt alumni have stayed to settle in Clinton Hill because of its
elegant 19th century homes, its close proximity to Manhattan, its
ethnically diverse population, and its reasonable cost of living. With
90 percent of freshmen living on campus, Pratt provides a traditional
residential college experience within a leading art school.
